TAB NZ versus offshore bookmakers

Since 28 June 2025, only TAB NZ, including Betcha, may offer online sports and racing betting to people in New Zealand. This restriction applies to overseas operators too. DIA explains the current racing and sports betting framework.

An overseas licence does not confer NZ permission. The recorded offshore brands on this page are international comparisons, and reported feature or payment figures are not a promise of access, protection or payout. Check the legal position before interpreting the commercial details.

Why line-shopping pays

A bookmaker prices a market with a margin. Add 1 divided by the decimal odds for every mutually exclusive outcome; the amount above 100% is the overround. At 1.90 on both sides it is about 5.26 percentage points. A better price improves a winning return but cannot guarantee profit, and comparisons must use matching settlement rules and permitted services.

International sportsbook reviews and regional offer records

1

Gambiva

4.9The Keep score

Combined sportsbook and casino with reported payment terms and an unconfirmed bonus calculation basis.

Sports & Markets

Gambiva runs a combined casino and sportsbook, and the betting side covers roughly 40 sports with several hundred pre-match events and a few hundred live markets open at any time. Football, tennis and darts are the deepest menus; rugby union, rugby league and cricket are present rather than featured, so you can find All Blacks, Super Rugby, NRL and Black Caps lines but not the sport-by-sport depth a rugby-first Kiwi punter might want.

Live in-play betting is available, and the odds refresh through the match for the mainstream football and tennis fixtures that drive the book. Cash out appears on selected markets rather than everywhere, and there is no standout bet builder feature to highlight. Treat Gambiva as a wide generalist book that happens to appear in our international operator records, not a bookmaker built around New Zealand sport.

Sign-up Offer & Promotions

Current casino reviews report a 20x wagering requirement, but disagree about whether it applies to bonus funds alone or deposit plus bonus. The earlier tiered 5x–10x description is not supported by the retrieved current evidence. Sportsbook-only bonus conditions remain unconfirmed.

Worked example: a NZ$100 deposit and NZ$100 bonus at 20x would require NZ$2,000 turnover on a bonus-only basis, or NZ$4,000 on a combined basis. Because the current calculation basis is unresolved, neither example is a confirmed offer condition.

Payment Methods

Gambiva lists cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro), instant bank payments and bank transfer, e-wallets including Skrill and Neteller, Paysafecard, and crypto (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, USDT, Dogecoin). The payment menu is a regional record, not proof of NZ sportsbook availability; a declined transaction should be queried with the bank or provider.

Reviews report e-wallet delivery within 24 hours, card delivery in 1–3 days and bank transfers in 3–5 days, after a separate pending period of up to 72 hours and verification. A crypto-specific withdrawal time was not confirmed. 18+. Gambling harm? Call the Gambling Helpline NZ free on 0800 654 655.

Pros

  • Sportsbook plus casino under one login, 40+ sports
  • Casino bonus reported at 20x, with calculation basis unresolved
  • Crypto, card, e-wallet and bank transfer all supported
  • Reported payment delivery follows a separate pending review
  • Current casino and sportsbook bonus terms require separate verification

Cons

  • Current sportsbook promotion and regional eligibility unconfirmed
  • Current licence and operator identity unconfirmed; reviews conflict
  • No real NZ-sport specialisation (rugby/NRL/cricket are generic)
Licence / regulatorAnjouan reported, but retrieved reviews conflict; current licence and operator identity unconfirmed[1][2]

Rooster.bet

4.8The Keep score

International sportsbook with a separately documented casino welcome offer.

Sports & Markets

Rooster.bet is a 2023-launch book (operated by Novatrix SRL according to its current terms) carrying betting markets across 55+ sports — football, basketball, ice hockey, tennis and the rest of the usual international menu. Odds and margins are reported as competitive, which matters more than market count for an offshore book: if the price is good you keep more of every winning bet. Its international market description says rugby union, NRL, Super Rugby and cricket are all bettable, though football carries the deepest coverage.

Live in-play betting is responsive and the main sports get in-play pricing through the event. Cash out and bet-builder style features are available on the mainstream markets rather than universally, so check the specific fixture before you rely on cashing out an NRL or Super Rugby multi.

Sign-up Offer & Promotions

Rooster.bet’s official casino bonus policy requires 40x bonus funds and free-spin winnings. A separate 3x cash-deposit turnover rule also applies. These casino conditions do not establish the wagering requirement for a sportsbook-only welcome promotion, which remains unconfirmed.

Worked example for the casino bonus: NZ$100 in bonus funds at 40x requires NZ$4,000 in qualifying turnover. The separate cash-deposit turnover rule must also be considered; this is not a sportsbook-bonus calculation.

Payment Methods

Deposit and withdrawal options cover Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, bank transfer, Paysafecard and Neosurf, plus major crypto (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin). The payment menu is a regional record, not proof of NZ sportsbook availability; a declined transaction should be queried with the bank or provider.

The payment page advertises instant crypto and e-wallet delivery after processing. General terms target processing within 72 hours after approval, with verification additional. Cards are advertised at 1–3 banking days and bank transfers at 3–5, plus approval and processing. 18+. Gambling harm? Call the Gambling Helpline NZ free on 0800 654 655.

Pros

  • 55+ sports with competitive, sharp-ish odds
  • Responsive live in-play betting
  • Crypto/e-wallet delivery advertised as instant after processing
  • Wide fiat and crypto payment menu
  • Official terms identify Novatrix SRL and Tobique licence 0000002

Cons

  • Official casino bonus requirement is 40x bonus and spin winnings
  • No published sportsbook wagering requirement
  • Licence is operator-disclosed; regulator certificate not independently retrieved

22bet

4.8The Keep score

Established 2017 heavyweight with deep in-play and one of the widest payment menus.

Sports & Markets

22bet, live since 2017 and listed under Starsten Limited in Kahnawake’s permit-holder register, is one of the more established offshore books here, and it shows in market depth: 100+ leagues, roughly 250 markets on a big football match and 100+ on other top sports. Its international description includes the markets that matter — rugby union, NRL, Super Rugby and cricket all carry multiple bet types, not just head-to-head.

The live section is a genuine strength, processing thousands of in-play events a month with singles, accumulators and system bets, and cash out is offered on both pre-match and selected in-play bets. If live and in-play betting is your main game, 22bet is one of the stronger books in this list for it.

Sign-up Offer & Promotions

The current casino welcome requirement is reported as 35x the bonus within seven days. A separate official Tanzania sportsbook offer requires 5x the bonus on qualifying accumulators; that regional offer does not establish applicable New Zealand terms.

Worked example: a NZ$100 casino bonus at 35x requires NZ$3,500 in qualifying turnover. Casino and sportsbook promotions have separate conditions.

Payment Methods

22bet's payment range is one of the broadest you will find: cards (Visa, Mastercard), Skrill, Neteller, ecoPayz, Paysafecard, Neosurf, Sofort, plus a long crypto list (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, USDT, XRP, USDC and more). The payment menu is a regional record, not proof of NZ sportsbook availability; a declined transaction should be queried with the bank or provider.

Reported delivery is 0–1 hour for e-wallets, 0–24 hours for crypto, up to 72 hours for cards and 1–7 days for bank transfers. A pending period of up to 24 hours and verification are additional. 18+. Gambling harm? Call the Gambling Helpline NZ free on 0800 654 655.

Pros

  • Deep markets — 250+ on top football, 100+ on other sports
  • Strong live in-play with cash out on pre-match and in-play
  • Exceptionally wide fiat and crypto payment menu
  • Established since 2017 with a track record
  • Reported e-wallet delivery 0–1 hour after review; verification can add time

Cons

  • Casino welcome reported at 35x bonus; sports offers are separate
  • Bonus converted to NZD from a Brazilian-market record

BetLabel

4.7The Keep score

Broad international book with crypto support and payment-method withdrawal limits.

Sports & Markets

BetLabel (listed under Starsten Limited in Kahnawake’s permit-holder register) fields a broad international sportsbook — 40+ sports covering the major North American and European leagues plus niche markets like esports. In the international menu the mainstream codes are all there, so rugby union, NRL, Super Rugby and cricket are covered, with football the deepest menu by some distance.

The platform offers live in-play betting and boosted odds, and supports crypto alongside traditional methods. Cash out and bet-builder depth is not clearly documented per market, so if you plan to cash out a Super Rugby or NRL multi, confirm it is enabled on that specific bet first.

Sign-up Offer & Promotions

BetLabel’s casino welcome is reported at 35x bonus. A separate sportsbook welcome is reported at 5x bonus within seven days, using accumulators with at least three selections at odds of 1.40 or more each. These conditions do not verify New Zealand sportsbook eligibility.

Worked example: a NZ$100 casino bonus at 35x requires NZ$3,500 in qualifying turnover. The separately reported 5x sportsbook condition would require NZ$500 on eligible accumulators.

Payment Methods

A current third-party payment table reports ≈ NZ$3,936.4 per card withdrawal, ≈ NZ$7,872.8 for Jeton and ≈ NZ$196,820 for Skrill or Neteller. These are method-specific reported limits; an account-wide period cap remains unconfirmed.

Current speed and limits require method-specific evidence. Check whether your balance is held in NZD or converted on the way out, as conversion may create additional costs depending on the method and currencies. 18+. Gambling harm? Call the Gambling Helpline NZ free on 0800 654 655.

Pros

  • 40+ sports and 90+ supported currencies
  • Live in-play betting with boosted odds
  • Strong crypto support alongside fiat
  • Casino welcome reported at 35x bonus; separate sportsbook offer at 5x
  • Reported regional payment options

Cons

Ivibet

4.6The Keep score

Crypto-friendly modern book with full and partial cash out plus live streaming.

Sports & Markets

Ivibet launched in 2022 (listed under Lufilight Ltd. in Kahnawake’s permit-holder register) as a modern, crypto-leaning sportsbook and casino, with nearly 50 sport categories across pre-match and live. The mainstream NZ codes are covered — rugby, NRL, Super Rugby, cricket — within a book that is built around football and the big international leagues.

Two features stand out for in-play punters: Ivibet offers full and partial cash out, letting you take a position off before the whistle, and it runs live streaming on a range of events so you can watch and bet in the same place. Confirm streaming and cash out are live on your specific fixture, since neither is universal across every market.

Sign-up Offer & Promotions

Ivibet’s casino welcome is reported at 40x bonus within seven days. Separate sports-bonus reporting gives a 5x bonus rollover on accumulators, but sources conflict on qualifying odds. The earlier Greek-market 10x figure should not be applied to either current offer.

Worked example: a NZ$100 casino bonus at 40x requires NZ$4,000 in qualifying turnover. A separately reported 5x sportsbook bonus would require NZ$500, subject to the applicable bet and odds restrictions.

Payment Methods

A current payment review reports a NZ$25 general deposit minimum and NZ$15 withdrawal minimum. Reported e-wallet delivery is within 24 hours, cards take 1–5 days and bank transfers 1–7 days; a pending review of up to 72 hours is additional.

As with every operator here, check whether your balance stays in NZD or converts to EUR/USD on withdrawal. 18+. Gambling harm? Call the Gambling Helpline NZ free on 0800 654 655.

Pros

  • Separate casino and sports bonuses reported at 40x and 5x bonus respectively
  • Full and partial cash out available
  • Live streaming across many events
  • Nearly 50 sport categories, crypto-friendly
  • Modern, mobile-first platform

Cons

Goldenbet

4.6The Keep score

International sportsbook with cash out and separately reported deposit-match promotions.

Sports & Markets

Goldenbet (operated by Santeda International B.V.) runs a fully integrated sportsbook covering 40+ disciplines and 100+ football leagues, with a reported ~15,000 events a month — genuine volume. For international comparisons the depth reaches rugby union, NRL, Super Rugby and cricket, though, as with most books here, football is the centre of gravity.

Two concrete features: Cash Out is available in full across multiple markets and sports, and a Bet Builder lets you combine markets from a single match into one bet — handy for a Super Rugby or NRL same-game multi. Live streaming is offered on a portion of the schedule too.

Sign-up Offer & Promotions

A current review reports a separate sports deposit-match promotion requiring 10x deposit plus bonus within 30 days, using accumulators with at least three events at odds of 1.40 or more. These terms do not describe the previously recorded cashback-as-free-bet offer, whose current conditions remain unconfirmed.

Worked example for that reported deposit-match offer: a NZ$100 deposit plus NZ$100 bonus at 10x requires NZ$2,000 in qualifying turnover. Cashback and free-bet promotions require their own terms.

Payment Methods

Goldenbet supports USD, EUR, GBP and CAD plus around 12 cryptocurrencies (BTC, USDT, TRX, ETH, DASH, XRP, DOGE and others). The payment menu is a regional record, not proof of NZ sportsbook availability; a declined transaction should be queried with the bank or provider.

Official terms set ≈ NZ$39.36 general deposit and withdrawal minima, with ordinary withdrawal caps of ≈ NZ$14,761.5 per seven days and ≈ NZ$29,523 per 30 days. Bank processing is stated as three banking days; delivery and verification can take longer. 18+. Gambling harm? Call the Gambling Helpline NZ free on 0800 654 655.

Zotabet

4.5The Keep score

Sportsbook and casino with distinct bonus terms and method-specific payout caps.

Sports & Markets

Zotabet carries a wide sport selection with live betting, cash out and in-match statistics. The mainstream NZ codes — rugby, NRL, Super Rugby, cricket — are all bettable, within a book that leans on football and the big international leagues for its deepest markets.

Cash out is available and becomes active depending on how your bet is positioned during play, so it is a dynamic feature rather than a guaranteed button on every market. In-play statistics are built in, which helps if you bet live and want context before the odds move.

Sign-up Offer & Promotions

Zotabet’s official casino welcome terms require 35x deposit plus bonus and 40x free-spin winnings, within three days. These casino conditions do not establish the separate sportsbook bonus terms.

Worked example: NZ$200 deposited plus a NZ$200 casino bonus at 35x requires NZ$14,000 in qualifying turnover. Free-spin winnings have a separate 40x condition.

Payment Methods

Zotabet offers 30+ payment systems and 20+ currencies: cards (Visa, Mastercard), Neteller, Paysafecard, bank transfer, account-to-account options, prepaid cards and crypto (Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Ripple, USDT). The payment menu is a regional record, not proof of NZ sportsbook availability; a declined transaction should be queried with the bank or provider.

Official fiat withdrawal caps are ≈ NZ$29,523 daily and ≈ NZ$196,820 monthly; crypto caps are ≈ NZ$147,615 daily and ≈ NZ$492,050 monthly equivalent. Method and promotional limits can differ. Processing targets 72 hours after approval, while bank transfers are processed within three business days. 18+. Gambling harm? Call the Gambling Helpline NZ free on 0800 654 655.

Roby Casino

4.4The Keep score

Casino-first brand with a secondary sportsbook and an NZD-stated welcome package.

Sports & Markets

Roby is casino-led with a secondary sportsbook bolted on, so set expectations accordingly: the betting menu covers the mainstream codes — football, basketball, tennis, plus rugby, NRL, Super Rugby and cricket in the international menu — but it is not a dedicated book with the market depth of a 22bet. If your main interest is a broad casino with betting on the side, that balance suits.

Live in-play betting is available on the main sports, and cash-out style features appear on mainstream markets rather than universally. Because the sportsbook is the junior partner here, confirm that the specific NZ fixture and bet type you want — say an NRL same-game multi — is actually offered before you commit.

Sign-up Offer & Promotions

Roby’s official casino welcome terms require 35x deposit plus bonus and 40x free-spin winnings, with a ten-day deadline. The qualifying casino bonus deposit is NZ$40. These conditions do not confirm a sportsbook-only promotion or its wagering rules.

Worked example for the casino offer: NZ$200 deposited plus NZ$200 in bonus funds requires NZ$14,000 of qualifying turnover at 35x. A separate sportsbook offer would need its own published conditions.

Payment Methods

Reviews list cards, e-wallets, bank transfers and crypto among Roby’s payment options. Current operator and licence claims conflict across sources, so the earlier family attribution is not treated as verified. A payment menu does not establish New Zealand sportsbook eligibility.

Reviews report entry-tier withdrawal limits of NZ$1,000 daily and NZ$13,000 monthly, subject to account conditions. Reported delivery is 0–24 hours for e-wallets, 3–5 days for cards and 3–7 days for banks, plus pending review of up to five days and verification. 18+. Gambling harm? Pros

  • Official casino terms publish NZD amounts; sportsbook eligibility unconfirmed
  • Casino plus sportsbook under one account
  • NZD stated in the welcome package
  • Standard crypto and fiat payment options
  • Live in-play on the main sports

Cons

Billybets

4.3The Keep score

Newer 2024 book with acca boosts and early payout.

Sports & Markets

BillyBets launched in 2024 and is one of the newer brands in this list. It offers 30+ sporting events for pre-match and in-play betting, so the menu is narrower than the established books here — the mainstream NZ codes are present (rugby, NRL, Super Rugby, cricket) but the market depth per fixture is lighter than a 22bet or 22-year-veteran operator.

Where it adds value is in the extras: BillyBets features early payout (your bet settles as a winner if your team goes a set number of goals or points ahead) and acca boosts on multiples, plus reported cash-out functionality, subject to market eligibility and an accepted offer. Those features suit multi and acca bettors more than single-market punters.

Sign-up Offer & Promotions

Published promotions distinguish the casino welcome from the sportsbook welcome. The casino match requires 35x deposit plus bonus, with 40x on free-spin winnings. The separate sports match requires 6x deposit plus bonus over 30 days. Casino free spins do not form part of the sports rollover.

Worked example: a NZ$200 deposit plus NZ$200 bonus requires NZ$2,400 turnover at the 6x sports condition, or NZ$14,000 at the 35x casino condition. Eligible bets, odds and deadlines differ between the two offers.

Payment Methods

BillyBets lists cards, e-wallets, bank transfers and cryptocurrencies. Official terms impose a conditional fee when a deposit is withdrawn before 1x turnover: 10%, minimum ≈ NZ$0.98, or 15% for bank/card-funded deposits. Provider charges can also apply.

Official terms allow up to 96 business hours for internal withdrawal processing. Verification can delay approval, and bank, card, e-wallet or blockchain delivery is additional. Published limits depend on account tier and payment method. 18+. Gambling harm? Call the Gambling Helpline NZ free on 0800 654 655.

Pros

  • Withdrawal fees can apply if deposit turnover is incomplete
  • Early payout and acca boosts on multiples
  • Cash out on most bets with fair values

  • Clean, user-friendly newer platform

Cons

Rabona

4.3The Keep score

Napoli partner book with bet builder, partial cash out and weekly cashback.

Sports & Markets

Rabona (operated by Rabidi NV) is a football-forward book — it is an official regional betting partner of SSC Napoli — with a vast selection of sports markets spanning football, basketball, tennis and the wider international menu. For international comparisons rugby, NRL, Super Rugby and cricket are all covered, though the brand's identity and deepest pricing sit firmly in football.

Two concrete features stand out: a Bet Builder for combining markets within a match, and partial cash out that works on practically all single and accumulator bets, full or partial. That cash-out breadth is better documented than most books in this list, which matters if you like to lock in or trim a position mid-event.

Payment Methods

Rabona offers 20+ funding methods: Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, MuchBetter, Paysafecard, bank transfer and crypto (Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT). The payment menu is a regional record, not proof of NZ sportsbook availability; a declined transaction should be queried with the bank or provider.

Casinia

4.2The Keep score

Casino-led brand with a solid secondary sportsbook and a modest NZD welcome.

Sports & Markets

Casinia is a casino-led brand (operated via the Araxio/Lynmonkel network) with a solid secondary sportsbook rather than a book-first operation. The betting menu covers the mainstream codes — football, basketball, tennis, plus rugby, NRL, Super Rugby and cricket in the international menu — but depth per fixture is lighter than a dedicated book.

Live in-play betting is available on the main sports, and cash-out style features appear on mainstream markets rather than universally. As with its sister brands in this list, confirm your specific NZ bet type is offered before you rely on it, since the sportsbook is the junior partner to the casino.

Sign-up Offer & Promotions

Reported promotions distinguish the casino welcome from the sportsbook welcome. The casino match requires 35x deposit plus bonus, with 40x on free-spin winnings. The separate sports match requires 6x deposit plus bonus over 30 days. Casino free spins do not form part of the sports rollover.

BassBet

4.1The Keep score

Sportsbook and casino brand with early payout and published bonus terms.

Sports & Markets

BassBet is described as a sports-focused brand from the Lynmonkel network, with a user-friendly design and a competitive selection of sports and odds. The mainstream NZ codes are covered — rugby, NRL, Super Rugby, cricket — within a book whose deepest pricing sits in football, as with most offshore operators here.

Its standout betting feature is early payout, settling qualifying bets as winners when your team opens a set lead. Cash out and in-play betting are available on the mainstream markets. Its sports-focused branding differs from its casino-led sister brands, though that focus does not translate into the market depth of the larger established books.

Librabet

4.1The Keep score

Football-focused sportsbook description; current product scope needs verification.

Sports & Markets

Librabet is described as a sports-focused Lynmonkel-network brand with a clear football focus and particular depth in the European leagues. For international comparisons the mainstream codes — rugby, NRL, Super Rugby, cricket — are bettable, but Librabet's strength and deepest markets sit in soccer, so it suits a football-leaning Kiwi bettor more than a rugby-first one.

Live in-play betting and cash out are available on the mainstream markets. Its reported interface focuses on sports betting, but the trade-off is less NZ-sport specialisation than the brand's European football roots suggest you would expect.

Payment Methods

Librabet uses the standard Lynmonkel-network payment menu: cards, e-wallets (Skrill, Neteller), bank transfer, Paysafecard and major crypto. The payment menu is a regional record, not proof of NZ sportsbook availability; a declined transaction should be queried with the bank or provider.

Nomini

4.0The Keep score

Italian-themed book with Serie A specials and a standard offshore spread.

Sports & Markets

Nomini is an Italian-themed Lynmonkel-network book that leans into Serie A and Champions League specials. For international comparisons the mainstream codes — rugby, NRL, Super Rugby, cricket — are covered, but the brand's personality and deepest markets sit in Italian and European football, so NZ-sport specialisation is thin.

Live in-play betting and cash out are available on the mainstream markets. Nomini carries both a casino and a sportsbook, so the betting side shares attention with the games — confirm your specific NZ bet type is offered before relying on it.

Nomini runs the standard Lynmonkel-network menu: cards, e-wallets (Skrill, Neteller), bank transfer, Paysafecard and major crypto. The payment menu is a regional record, not proof of NZ sportsbook availability; a declined transaction should be queried with the bank or provider.

Official terms allow up to three business days for internal withdrawal processing. Verification can delay approval, and bank, card, e-wallet or blockchain delivery is additional. Published limits depend on account tier and payment method. 18+. Gambling harm? Call the Gambling Helpline NZ free on 0800 654 655.

Spinanga

4.0The Keep score

Casino-led brand that bolted on a sportsbook over 2024-25; betting still the junior side.

Sports & Markets

Spinanga is a Lynmonkel-network brand that started casino-led and added a sportsbook over 2024–25, so the betting side is newer and still the junior partner to the games. The mainstream NZ codes — rugby, NRL, Super Rugby, cricket — are present within a menu built on football and the big international leagues, but depth per fixture is lighter than a dedicated book.

Live in-play betting and cash out are available on the mainstream markets. Because the sportsbook is recent, confirm your specific NZ bet type — say a Super Rugby same-game multi — is actually offered before you commit to it here.

New Zealand sports: where to bet what

The books worth your time cover the sports Kiwis actually follow. Rugby union — All Blacks tests, Super Rugby Pacific and the NPC — is the deepest market, with handicaps, first try scorer and multis. Rugby league centres on the NRL and the Warriors. Cricket runs from Black Caps internationals to the Super Smash. Add football (A-League and the European leagues), horse and harness racing with tote and fixed-odds options, and netball, which most books price thinly — a genuine gap if you know the ANZ Premiership.

Live and in-play betting

Live prices change as the match progresses, and markets can suspend around tries, wickets or reviews. A broadcast may lag the event, while an acceptance delay can change or reject a bet. TAB provides in-play markets; its official help says Same Game Multis cannot be placed after the start. Cash out is conditional, not a guaranteed profit or universal feature. See our live betting guide.

Deposits, withdrawals and declined payments

A listed payment method does not establish current availability or permission to offer sports betting in New Zealand. Check the authorised service, account ownership, verification requirements, fees and currency before funding an account. If a payment is declined, ask the bank or provider for the reason rather than trying another route around the restriction. Reported withdrawal speeds are not guarantees.

NZ sportsbook permission and personal tax treatment are separate questions. The operator restriction applies to overseas providers as well as domestic ones. Do not assume every gambling receipt has the same tax treatment: Inland Revenue explains that business income depends on the activity and circumstances. Obtain case-specific advice if betting is organised as a business.

How to compare a sportsbook before considering its bonus

A useful comparison starts with permission to offer the service, then the actual market and account terms. Since 28 June 2025, only TAB NZ, including its Betcha brand, may offer online sports and racing betting to people in New Zealand. An offshore licence, a working website or an NZD balance does not change that. The international brands in our review database are not additional authorised NZ sportsbooks. See DIA's player guidance.

How to build a shortlist from evidence

  1. Check the permitted operator. Establish the legal position before comparing products. Do not mistake casino eligibility for sportsbook permission.
  2. Choose a representative fixture. Compare the same competition, start time, market, line and settlement period. All Blacks to win in regulation is different from winning after extra time.
  3. Read the rule that could change your return. Check draws, abandoned games, non-starters, void selections and dead heats.
  4. Check account controls. Find deposit limits, time-outs, self-exclusion and complaint contacts before funding an account.
  5. Review payment and bonus conditions. Record currency, fees, withdrawal limits and what counts toward wagering. A missing figure remains unknown.

New brands and highly rated brands need the same checks. A launch date, sponsorship or customer-review score cannot establish settlement accuracy. Useful testing records identify the reviewer, date, region, fixture basket, device and method; a claimed “fastest payout” needs comparable evidence. Our methodology should distinguish measured results, operator statements and missing data rather than merge them into a single promise.

What our operator records can and cannot establish

Our source file associates Gambiva's offer with Austria, Rooster.bet's with Canada, 22bet's with Brazil and BetLabel's with Romania. Ivibet's record is Greek; Goldenbet's is Austrian. These are evidence labels, not exchange rates or proof that a sportsbook offer applies in New Zealand. Even records labelled NZ, including Rabona and Roby Casino, do not establish permission to provide sports betting here. Ratings also do not replace regulatory checks.

Sports bonuses: compare the conditions in dollars

How to calculate a deposit match and qualifying turnover

Consider an invented offer using Gambiva as a label: an 800% match on NZ$50 creates NZ$400 bonus funds and a NZ$450 combined balance. If a hypothetical 5× condition applies only to the bonus, turnover is NZ$2,000; if it applies to deposit plus bonus, it is NZ$2,250. This arithmetic does not confirm a current offer or its eligibility.

  1. Calculate the match from your intended deposit, subject to the cap.
  2. Identify the wagering base and multiply by the requirement.
  3. Check minimum odds, excluded markets, maximum stakes, deadlines and withdrawal consequences.
  4. Compare against declining the promotion. Turnover is money repeatedly put at risk, not a fee that buys a guaranteed withdrawal.

How free bets, cashback and boosts differ

In an illustrative Goldenbet-style cashback example, 20% of a NZ$50 qualifying loss is a NZ$10 free bet, not NZ$10 cash. If its stake is not returned, a winning free bet at 3.00 pays NZ$20. A cash NZ$10 bet at the same price returns NZ$30 including stake. Reloads, no-deposit offers and loyalty rewards can have different restrictions. A boosted multi may still be poor value, and VIP rewards should never become a reason to spend more.

Match the comparison to the sport you follow

Coverage counts conceal differences: hundreds of football markets do not establish useful netball coverage. Rugby union includes All Blacks tests, Super Rugby and provincial competitions; league includes the Warriors and NRL. Cricket spans short-format, one-day and Test rules. Football includes the A-League and overseas leagues; basketball, tennis and esports have their own participant and completion rules. Racing uses separate win, place, each-way, tote and fixed-odds conventions.

How to compare a sporting calendar

  1. List the competitions you actually follow and check official fixture dates in New Zealand time.
  2. Check an ordinary round as well as a major final. A World Cup menu does not prove season-long depth.
  3. Separate pre-match, live, player and outright markets; count only the types you understand.
  4. Check tournament rules and funds committed to futures. An outright stake may remain tied up for months.

Our betting markets guide explains the settlement differences. None of these sport examples predicts a result or promises an available market.

How to check mobile access, payments and support

Review the bet slip before placing a first bet

For an authorised service, use its official site or app-store listing. Confirm the publisher, verify identity through the service's secure process, and set limits before making a deposit. On mobile, check that the full market label, accepted odds, stake and possible return remain visible. Find the setting for changed odds; automatic acceptance can produce a different price from the one you selected. A home-screen shortcut is not necessarily a native app.

Separate payment speed from withdrawal conditions

Visa, Mastercard, bank transfers, e-wallets, prepaid products and crypto are payment categories, not proof of availability or authorisation. A prepaid deposit may need a different permitted withdrawal method. Check identity verification, account ownership, minimums, fees and currency conversion. If NZ$100 incurs a hypothetical 2% conversion cost each way with no exchange-rate change, only NZ$96.04 remains before betting. A declined deposit is a reason to contact the bank or provider, not to route around a restriction.

Keep a complaint record and a spending boundary

Save the accepted bet receipt, rules, support reference and payment dates. Ask support to explain a disputed settlement in writing. Do not send passwords or one-time codes. Review recreational spending across every account together, including pending bets; a deposit limit is not the same as a loss limit. For a break or help stopping, use our safer gambling guide or call 0800 654 655. The live betting guide covers delays and cash out, and strategy guide explains probability and record keeping without profit promises.

Frequently asked questions

Is it legal to bet with offshore bookmakers in NZ?

Since 28 June 2025, operators other than TAB NZ and its brands cannot lawfully offer online sports or racing betting to people in New Zealand. The cited restriction addresses offering bets; that is different from claiming an automatic player penalty for using an offshore site. DIA warns that offshore customers may lack safeguards or receive no payout.

Are sports betting winnings taxed in New Zealand?

Do not assume every betting receipt is automatically tax-free. Treatment can depend on whether the activity amounts to a business and on the wider circumstances. Check Inland Revenue guidance or obtain tax advice if you are unsure; a sportsbook comparison is not a personal tax determination.

TAB NZ or an offshore bookmaker — which is better?

TAB NZ, including Betcha, is the permitted provider for NZ sports and racing betting. Offshore feature lists do not establish lawful NZ availability. Compare the actual fixture, settlement rules, price and account protections rather than assuming an overseas operator is better.

Why did my bank decline a betting deposit?

A bank may decline a transaction for account, security, merchant or policy reasons. Ask the bank or provider what happened and confirm the service is permitted before attempting payment again. Do not use another payment method to evade a restriction.

What is cash out and how does it work?

Cash out lets you settle a bet early for a value the book offers based on the current state of play — locking in a profit or cutting a loss before the event ends. It is handy for live multis, but the book builds a margin into the cash-out price, so it is rarely the mathematically optimal play.
